Who am I? What is my purpose? What is the purpose of this life, of this soul?
What is the purpose of this body?
It’s an interesting yet difficult question for me. It feels deep—somehow, I know, and somehow, I don’t. But why do I say I know and, at the same time, feel that I don’t know? Because I am on a journey of self-discovery.
If I ask someone, "Do you truly know yourself?" they often say yes because they associate self-knowledge with knowing their likes, dislikes, and roles in life. But is that really knowing oneself?
People define themselves based on their different roles—parent, friend, professional—without truly reflecting on the why behind their thoughts, feelings, and actions.
Why do I want certain things?
Why am I the way I am?
Why do I resist doing certain things?
To truly know yourself, you must go deep into the roots of your behaviors, traits, and beliefs—both positive and negative.
Unraveling Hidden Beliefs
Through journaling, I’ve started uncovering hidden patterns within me. One realization that stood out was my hesitation to ask for money—even when it was rightfully mine.
Why?
I traced it back to my childhood. I never had to ask my parents for things; they provided before I even needed to ask. Over the years, this created a subconscious belief: I don’t need to ask for anything.
But as I grew older, this belief became a barrier. When I needed to ask for something—whether from family, friends, or even professionally—I felt uncomfortable. Calling or messaging someone about money made me anxious.
I know I’m not alone in this. Many people struggle with unexplained hesitations and discomforts. But when we take the time to reflect, we start seeing the why behind our behaviors.
Discovering Myself
So, who am I?
I am a woman who loves colors, who enjoys learning and exploring new things. I love music but don’t enjoy parties. I love helping and guiding others in any way I can. But I’m also rigid about certain things—like food preferences and trends.
And my purpose?
The purpose of my life is to help others—however I can, whenever I can. I believe my soul’s ultimate goal is to merge with the divine, with Lord Ganesha, whom I deeply connect with. I feel that every soul ultimately seeks to merge with the supreme power rather than return again and again.
The Purpose of This Body
What about my body—the vehicle of my soul?
I believe my purpose is to use this body to serve others, to fulfill my responsibilities while staying connected to my spiritual path. I don’t believe in renouncing the world, but I do believe in fulfilling my duties while serving God through service to others.
I want to keep working, learning, and helping people until my last breath. That’s why I chose this profession—guiding others through self-discovery. Looking back, I realize I have always been drawn to this, even as a child, in different ways.
What About You?
What is your purpose in life?
When you sit in silence, what vision of yourself comes to mind?
Who do you see around you?
What kind of environment surrounds you?
Don’t overthink it—let the answers come in their own time. But do reflect on this:
Why did God give you this body and soul?
How can you help your soul fulfill its purpose?
Remember, time is limited. Your body is only a temporary home for your soul. Give it something meaningful so that your soul feels grateful—to God, to this life, and to you.
