Recently, I was traveling to my father’s home with both my
father and son. It wasn’t my first train journey, but it was the first time I
realized how similar a train journey is to life’s journey. You travel
from one point to another—from birth to death—life itself being a journey of
the soul, with your body as the train. Along the way, you encounter
different stops, such as school, college, job, marriage, and children.
At each stop, people join you—like school friends,
colleagues, and partners—and at different points, they leave when their time in
your life ends. Each person has their own journey. They’re just with you
to keep you company for a while. Whether known or unknown, what’s common
is that everyone has their own purpose and destination.
What I learned from this experience is that your
journey never stops for others. Whether someone joins or leaves, your
journey goes on. If you become too focused on who is with or not with you,
you risk dismissing God’s plan for you. Plus, you’re
wasting your time, energy, and potential. Instead, use your full
potential to follow your dreams, fulfil your purpose, and, most
importantly, live out God’s purpose for you.
Sometimes, you may focus so much on other people’s
journeys that you forget you have your own journey to
complete—your own lessons to learn, your own wins and failures. You
end up missing many moments you could have cherished or celebrated with
family and friends.
On the flip side, sometimes you become so focused on yourself,
so wrapped up in proving something, that you don’t even notice who has
left or who is still with you. You forget to share your
problems and struggles or celebrate your milestones with loved ones.
Now, the big question is: how do you find balance? If
you ask me, I’d say you can never really find it. Ha! You
heard me right. In life, the concept of balance doesn’t truly exist. You
can’t balance everything by giving it the same amount of attention or effort.
So, what’s the solution? The only way to live fully is to
develop the awareness of when to focus on yourself and when to focus on
others. Sometimes you get success, sometimes failure. Sometimes you
can predict life, sometimes not. But that’s the beauty of life. Enjoy more and
complain less. Always remember, a great life is in front of you—grab the
opportunity and live abundantly.
